The guide bar for the circular saw is a tool that ensures even cuts. There are two ways to help you make a straight cut:
- Rigid fixation of the electric saw on the desktop.
- Stationary fixing of the workpiece, installation of a guide rail for the manual circular.
The first option involves fixing the tool to the workbench, while the workpiece moves along the guide. The cut quality will be high, but the dimensions of the workpiece are limited, due to the size of the machine. In the second processing method, the parameters of the workpiece can be arbitrary. The main thing is that the miter tool is securely locked.
Manufacturers of joinery produce a wide range of guide rails for circular saws. Details are convenient in use, meet safety rules. The design drawing includes a guide ruler. In some cases, you can set the desired degree of inclination of the torch, you can avoid play, jamming of the working element during its movement.
The factory carriage mounted on the circular copes well with the task, but is expensive. The article describes how to assemble the guide bar for the saw on your own.

Self-made devices for circulars require strict adherence to safety rules.
An emphasis for cutting is often used when processing the material of a circular saw is effective only in the case of a jigsaw, problems can arise with cutting: the tire is pressed into the workpiece with a clamp.
The bracket protrudes from the lower and upper sides of the machine worktop. The result is a limiter along the length of the cut, but the saw motor inevitably rests on the clamp, the cut is performed in two stages. The quality of the edge will be poor, there is a high probability of the formation of an undesirable step: to ensure perfect cutting, a continuous movement of the cutting disc from the beginning to the end of the lumber is necessary. In factory models, the fastener is moved outside the line for the circular saw, does not interfere with the work.
Materials and assembly
Homemade guide rail can be mounted from aluminum plaster rule. The device has a complex configuration, on the one hand it is provided with a longitudinal groove for installing the handles in a convenient position. Hidden clamps can be made from quick-release screwless clamps.
It is necessary to dismantle the paw from the clamp, install fluoroplastic or polypropylene runners in its place. The material of the movable element must be strong, have a reduced coefficient of friction. The part is best formed by a milling cutter or a hacksaw for metal with small teeth, but in the second case it will be necessary to additionally shape it with a file.
At the next stage, the sliders set the rules in the groove from which the guide for the hand circular saw will be created.
Care must be taken to ensure that the slip is free, but without play. It is not necessary to exert excessive efforts: during operation, the assembly must be fixed.
Screw the slide to the top of the clamps. At the same time, you need to make sure the connection is strong so that the unit does not spontaneously unwind during operation. This will ruin the workpiece or cause injury.
The guide bar for the circular saw should be well kept, not to give backlash. The resulting design will allow to dissolve flat lumber along the length corresponding to the same parameter of the ruler minus the margin from the sides of clamp clamping.
If during the test sawing a perfectly smooth cut is obtained, nothing interferes with the work, it means that the technology has been followed, the guide is made correctly.
Plus design - the line will cost inexpensively. Labor costs are also insignificant, they consist only in the formation of sliders.
Remote guide
A device with a guide rail has the disadvantage of having to control the lateral contact of the saw with the ruler. When cutting a workpiece that is too wide, the arm length may not be enough to guide the material. The solution is to use a ball bearing carriage. It will cost not so cheap, but will pay off in the future.
The guide carriage can be made from a corner and metal plates. The width is adjustable with the wing clips integrated in the movable grooves. A profile of a complex configuration is bought in a specialized department of a construction store. There may be several options, but you need to provide a parallel emphasis for the circular.
If for some reason it is not possible to make an auxiliary element from a profile that will direct the cut along a clear line, you can buy an assembled device consisting of a carriage and a guide. The circular will be firmly connected by the sole to the carriage structure.
It is important to achieve strict parallelism of the circular motion along the profile. An improperly installed stand will give a loose cut. The portable guide bar for the circular saw is easy to make with your own hands. As a result, it will be possible to guide, process large-sized lumber, make a quality cut, trimming will be accurate, the saw will carry out light movements. The feed can be carried out manually or using a guide rod.
Rail miter box
The work of a circular saw with a guide rail assembled according to the first two methods will be comfortable, but rather slow. To speed up the process, it is better to use a rail miter box. For the manufacture of a guide device you will need:
- the same type of metal corners (2 pcs.);
- a sheet of plywood or chipboard with a thickness of 1.5 cm (as a base);
- nuts with bolts (4 sets).
Guide angles must be fixed in one plane at a distance slightly greater than the thickness of the workpiece. The workpiece should move freely under the rails, the cutting circle should not be too high. Bolts will act as studs. To reduce friction, it is possible to glue PTFE strips, however it is better to equip the device with wheels.
A guiding tool made according to this scheme is complex, but its efficiency is higher.
